Police accept the Independent Police Conduct Authority's finding - a man was unfairly charged with sexual assault

Police accept the Independent Police Conduct Authority's finding - a man was unfairly charged with sexual assault

In October 2019, Police arrested a man in Avondale accused of assaulting a woman viewing his rental property.

He was charged after an interview with a trainee detective - despite issues warranting further investigation.

Almost a year later, charges were withdrawn - after Police found inconsistencies in the victim's statement, and established her links to a man, who'd attempted to extort the accused.

Police have apologised - saying there was a lack of guidance from supervisors.
