Little surprise of Flybuys' closure - with reward schemes more popular than ever

Little surprise of Flybuys' closure - with reward schemes more popular than ever

Around 90 people will lose their jobs when the scheme and its parent company Loyalty NZ close down at the end of the year.

Members can earn Flybuys points until October 31, and have until December 31 to redeem them.

Retail and marketing expert Juanita Neville-Te Rito says when Flybuys started in 1996, reward programmes were hard to set up and operate.

She says it's now easy for businesses to run their own programme - and customers want rewards, rather than points.
