Prime Minister Chris Luxon is getting his feet on the ground in the Pacific - visiting two of our closest partners

Prime Minister Chris Luxon is getting his feet on the ground in the Pacific - visiting two of our closest partners

He'll meet with the leaders of Niue and Fiji this week to develop and reaffirm New Zealand's cooperation with the region.

The Fiji leg of the trip will have a significant focus on economic and trade opportunities.

Newstalk ZB Political Editor Jason Walls says Fiji's Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is relatively new into his tenure - so it's important Luxon strengthens this relationship.

He says it's not a big trip - just an opportunity to show face.
