An outraged Mayor says Police need stronger powers to control disorderly mobs

An outraged Mayor says Police need stronger powers to control disorderly mobs

It comes after officers were injured by a group of more than 200 boy-racers in Levin over the weekend.

Bottles and rocks were pelted at Police, and vehicles impounded after a car meet turned violent.

Horowhenua Mayor Bernie Wanden says says Police were simply outnumbered.

He supports Police in trying to crack down on this behaviour, and suggests greater powers are needed.
