Gabourey Sidibe has given birth to twins

The 'Precious' actress and her husband Brandon Frankel welcomed a son and daughter into the world in early April, just two months after the 41-year-old star had publicly announced her pregnancy

Gabourey broke the happy news to The Shade Room and revealed her children are called Cooper and Maya.

She said: "Brandon always wanted to name a son Cooper, so we can call him 'Coop,' and Maya was named shortly before our baby moon to the Mayan Riviera in Mexico. Both twins have traditional West African middle names after members of my family...

"We're excited for outfits and getting them dressed up, for sing-alongs, trips and to explore, and raising them to be good people."

Although it is unclear exactly when the Oscar-nominated star gave birth, the day she went into labour gave her a shock.

She said: "We originally were going in for a routine appointment, only to be told the twins would be coming later that day and not when originally planned."

Both babies are "extremely strong and hilarious" although they "have yet to really interact with each other."

Gabourey said: "Cooper will sometimes speak for Maya and alert us that she's about to spit up. Maya loves her name being sung to her and is the queen of comedic timing, and Cooper loves his sleep and has the funniest facial expressions.

"They both love cuddling with Mom and Dad...

"Also, it was a surprise to see how little they've acknowledged each other outside the womb when they seemed to interact so much inside."

The actress announced her pregnancy on Instagram in April.

She shared a picture of her husband with his arms wrapped around her baby bump and wrote: "I'm pregnant! We thought it was time to give our cats some responsibility so we're giving them each a baby to take care of!

"Double the babies, double the cats, double the fun!! Twin Delivery coming soon! Twinty Twinty Four!!"

She also added a snap of the pair trying out a double push chair and another which showed them standing in their bathroom with Brandon placing one hand lovingly on her tummy.

The baby news comes two years after the couple - who met on dating app Raya in 2020 - married in secret in their kitchen shortly after becoming engaged.
