The majority of New Zealanders in a new poll want Easter trading laws to change
25 June 2024
The Taxpayers' Union - Curia poll asked one-thousand random Kiwis if they support shops opening if they choose to on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
64 percent say they do, while 27 percent oppose a change.
Nine percent were unsure.
Taxpayers' Union Campaigns Manager, Connor Molloy says current laws are archaic.
He says banning stores from trading is a burden to owners - and harmful to casual workers who may need the money.
MPs will vote on a Member's Bill proposing the change in the coming weeks.
