It's thought that changes to the Medicinal Cannabis Scheme could spark major growth in our export of it

Cabinet has approved changes which will see medicinal cannabis only need to meet the standards of the country it's being exported to, instead of New Zealand's quality standard.

The New Zealand Medicinal Cannabis Council says it will mean New Zealand can export and keep up with our international competition.

Executive Director Sally King says worldwide, business is booming.

She says the prediction for 2025 is that medicinal cannabis brings in more than 60-billion US dollars and continues to grow exponentially.
