The National Bowel Screening Programme's reached a new milestone -- distributing two million home screening kits

The National Bowel Screening Programme's reached a new milestone -- distributing two million home screening kits

The programme, which began in 2017, has detected 2495 cancers as of last month.

Health Minister Shane Reti says the programme's only one part of the Government plan to improve cancer outcomes.

It last month announced a boost to Pharmac's budget to fund up to 26 cancer drugs.

Reti says consultation began on Friday for the first targeted treatments -- including one for colorectal cancer.
