Rent prices could be easing, as net migration is cooling down

Rent prices could be easing, as net migration is cooling down

Stats NZ figures show net migration of 83-thousand people in the year to May -- down 14-thousand from the year before.

Around 220-thousand migrants arrived on our shores, with the majority from India and Philippines.

ASB chief economist Nick Tuffley says the recent spikes in migration have put pressure on the rental market because of the housing shortage.

But he says it's been encouraging to see signs of rental inflation stabilising.
