Dangerous driving has kept Southland police busy over the weekend, with one person nearly 10 times above the limit

More than 50 infringements were issued in the Otago Coastal area, and five drivers suspended for travelling more than 40 kilometres above speed restrictions.

They'll appear in court, joined by five drivers above the alcohol limit - out of of seven caught.

Senior Sergeant Karl Hemmingsen says their behaviour is absurd and dangerous, and could have had disastrous consequences.
