A person has died following a workplace incident in Rotorua's Kaingaroa Forest today

A person has died following a workplace incident in Rotorua's Kaingaroa Forest today

Emergency services responded to the address off of Tom Rodgers Road at around noon.

An excavator became submerged while clearing a drain and a search was conducted before the driver was found dead.

WorkSafe has been advised and investigations are ongoing.

A statement from Forestry company Timberlands says it was a third party contractor working on site.

CEO Ryan Cavanagh says it's important to understand what has happened so that it can never happen again.
