Millions of dollars in health insurance claims is being paid out for cancer drugs

Millions of dollars in health insurance claims is being paid out for cancer drugs

Southern Cross Health Society Chief Medical Officer Dr Stephen Child says they're currently experiencing exceptionally high claims.

Across all claims, they're paying around six-million-dollars every day to more than 955-thousand members.

Access to Pharmac funded and non-Pharmac funded drugs is available through cancer cover options.

In the financial year to June 2023, Southern Cross paid more than four-million for non-Pharmac drugs, more than seven-million for Pharmac drugs and 30-million for administering the drugs.
