Changes to discharge consent laws are being seen as a win by the irrigation sector

Changes to discharge consent laws are being seen as a win by the irrigation sector

Agriculture Minister Todd McClay's announced Cabinet's made time critical amendments to a section of the Resource Management Act.

He says it'll help council's ability to issue consents for discharges from activities like farming, meat processing and wastewater.

Irrigation NZ Chief Executive, Vanessa Winning, told The Country without this change, it would be very hard for council to manage these.

She says it means that discharges, or human and economic activity, can continue - which is huge.
