A positive shift in the country's economy has finally arrived

Kiwibank's latest annual regional report shows each region increased its economic score - with the exception of Wellington.

Southland scored the highest, which is being put down to an increase in building consents and a positive boost in tourism.

Chief Economist Jarrod Kerr says the economy won't really improve until interest rates are cut.

He says once that happens people will have confidence going forward.
