Whittaker's says it's assessing the damage after a fire broke out in its Porirua chocolate factory last night

Whittaker's says it's assessing the damage after a fire broke out in its Porirua chocolate factory last night

A person was taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation, and six fire engines, including one aerial appliance attended the blaze just before 11pm.

Whittaker's says the fire was quickly contained to their chocolate hopper.

The Porirua factory is the sole production facility for all Whittaker's products, with the company saying it's working to minimise any disruption.

All staff are said to be safe.
