North Harbour have almost pulled off a famous victory in their Battle of the Bridge against Auckland

North Harbour have almost pulled off a famous victory in their Battle of the Bridge against Auckland

Harbour led a nailbiter 32-29 at Eden Park until the final 90 seconds... when right wing Caleb Tangitau ran in a magnificent match-winner, his second try of the game making it 36-32 to the Gulls.

So they finally win one in this season's NPC, ending their worst losing start to the competition since it began in 1976.

Auckland captain Akira Ioane typically understated afterwards, on Sky Sport.

Wellington have beaten Southland 36-12 in Porirua.

In the women's Farah Palmer Cup, the Counties Manukau Heat top the Premiership after winning five from five... beating the Auckland Storm 35-20 at Eden Park.

Wellington are making the running in the FPC Championship, claiming a comprehensive 51-13 road win over the Otago Spirit in Dunedin.

Tasman have won their first game, the Mako women edging the visiting, still winless Taranaki Whio 39-36 in Nelson.
