Selena Gomez gave up trying to disguise herself in public years ago - as she thought her distinctive voice always gave her away

The 'Only Murders in the Building' actress, 32, shot to fame as a child actress in the kids' TV series 'Barney and Friends', in which she starred from 2002, when she was aged 10, to 2004 - then sealed her place in Hollywood playing Alex Russo on the Disney Channel sitcom 'Wizards of Waverly Place' from 2007 to 2012.

When asked if she has ever tried to hide herself from her obsessive fans, Selena told Vanity Fair: "Yeah, it doesn't work. "Literally one time I was in line for something. I was fully in disguise, and I was talking to someone.

"I don't even remember what I said. And then the woman in front of me goes, 'My God, it is you! I thought I heard your voice!'

"I was like, oh God, what do I sound like to people? And then I also feel so silly once I get busted."

Selena has seen her fame continue to soar thanks to her role in 'Only Murders in the Building', and has just given her rawest performance in the movie musical 'Emilia Pérez', in which she plays a Mexican drug baron's petrified but resourceful wife.

She added one thing she has never stopped doing in public is going to her fellow singers' gigs.

Selena added: "I love female artists. I've been to all the girls' concerts - Billie (Eilish), Dua (Lipa)... ."

She also paid tribute to her close friend Taylor Swift, 34, who has been one of her longtime pals.

Selena said: "She is really like a big sister to me."

Her Vanity Fair profile added the pair "talk about the industry from time to time, with Gomez seeking advice on music or how to navigate new friendships at their respective levels of fame".

But it added: "More often than not, though, they're just gossiping about the things that all friends gossip about and comparing notes on the latest season of 'Vanderpump Rules'."

Selena said about her love of reality TV: "I'm on 'The Valley' now. I've watched every episode of 'Vanderpump', so I don't care if it's bad!"
