ASB says our net migration is likely to fall more quickly than once thought

ASB says our net migration is likely to fall more quickly than once thought

Stats NZ data shows annual net migration's fallen to 67-thousand, the lowest level since early 2023.

It peaked at 136-thousand in October last year.

ASB Chief Economist Mark Smith says they expect that number to approach 30-thousand by the end of the year.

He says the speed that net flows have fallen off has been surprising, and we could well see net migration outflows next year.
