Brie Larson is set to make her West End debut in 'Elektra'

The Oscar-winning star will make her debut in poet Anne Carson's adaptation of the Sophokles play helmed by Tony Award-winner Daniel Fish

She said: "I couldn't be more excited to perform in this Greek drama, or in better company collaborating with Daniel Fish and Anne Carson. Storytelling has always been the way I organise life, feelings and experiences. I look forward to sharing space with the wonderful West End audience while we explore this timeless story."

The plot follows Elektra and her long-lost brother Orestes who seek justice following the murder of their father Agamemnon by Clytemnestra and their stepfather Aegisthus.

Daniel commented: "What is ancient and what is contemporary? Carson's translation explodes this question. It is a thrilling challenge to work on Sophokles's tragedy, by way of Carson's words, and on the beautiful stage of The Duke of York's with Brie Larson."

The show will receive its premiere at the Theatre Royal Brighton from January 13 to Saturday 18 January 2025, before heading to the Duke of York's Theatre in London for an 11-week run starting on January 24.

Brie won acclaim for her performance in 2015's 'Room' and has since starred as Carol Danvers in Marvel's first female-led superhero blockbuster 'Captain Marvel'.

The 34-year-old actress won her Academy Award for her portrayal of a kidnapping victim in 'Room' and later admitted she struggled to shake off the "dark" role for more than a year afterwards.

Taking part in one of The Hollywood Reporter's roundtables earlier this year, she said: "I basically haven't done anything as dark as 'Room' since 'Room', because it took me a year to get out of it. And it was really scary. It took me a long time to be able to just do basic things that I used to enjoy in my life.

"So, yeah, you hope that you have the grace of a line producer who's scheduled it so that there are moments where you can offload."
