Disappointment from Tory Whanau after losing a key vote on selling Wellington City Council's airport shares

Disappointment from Tory Whanau after losing a key vote on selling Wellington City Council's airport shares

The council yesterday successfully voted to derail its planned airport shares sale.

Whanau had championed selling the 34 percent share in the airport, to diversify the council's assets and set up an investment fund.

But after a tense meeting, councillors voted to scrap the sale.

Whanau says while disappointed, she's only one vote around the council table, and respects councillors' decision.

She says democracy has spoken, but expects ill-feelings around the council table for a while.
