    Greater Wellington Regional Council's debt has officially ticked over one billion dollars


    That's over 50-thousand more than expected -- the council blaming a year of economic challenges and financial pressures.

    Chair Daran Ponter says investment is needed, particularly in water infrastructure, and sometimes that requires debt funding.
