The Oamaru train is still chugging along today for its 100th birthday

The Oamaru train is still chugging along today for its 100th birthday

People are gathering to celebrate the Steam Locomotive B10 built which was built in 1924.

Coffee, cake, and a brass band celebration will roll out from 1pm, before train rides open to the public.

Tourism Waitaki Spokesperson Jade Harvey says Oamaru residents love their steam train.

She says there's such a celebration, because it allows people to step back in time.
