People are being warned not to make outdoor plans for the next day or so

People are being warned not to make outdoor plans for the next day or so

Wild weather is already causing havoc, with rockfalls blocking State Highway 6 between Whataroa and Harihari on the West Coast, and strong winds affecting the Desert Road.

Gales in the capital last night have disrupted dozens of flights, prevented a Bluebridge ferry from berthing, and even blown cyclists off their bikes.

MetService forecaster Lewis Ferris says more rain in on the way as we head into the weekend.

He says the South Island will be in the thick of it for most of tomorrow, and the North will get progressively worse as the day goes on.
