New Zealand Formula One driver Liam Lawson has been 9th quickest in Practice 1 for the Mexican Grand Prix

New Zealand Formula One driver Liam Lawson has been 9th quickest in Practice 1 for the Mexican Grand Prix

Lawson was surprisingly quicker than Red Bull's Sergio Perez, with the Mercedes of George Russell topping the time sheets ahead of Carlos Sainz' Ferrari and Lawson's Racing Bulls team mate Yuki Tsunoda .

The opening practice session was halted by a bizarre collision between Alex Albon's Williams and Ferrari stand-in Ollie Bearman.

It seems Bearman was letting Albon past in Mexico's sweeping middle sector corners when Albon lost control and speared into the Ferrari.

Both cars received major damage and stewards will investigate.
