An historic apology to survivors of abuse in care is underway at Parliament

An historic apology to survivors of abuse in care is underway at Parliament

The Royal Commission of Inquiry's final report has labelled the scale of abuse a "national disgrace" -- estimating more than 200-thousand people have experienced harm.

The leaders of major government departments are issuing individual apologies, before Christopher Luxon apologises on behalf of the nation.

Survivors are watching on in-person in Parliament, and at events around the country.

The apology will be followed by the first reading of new legislation, aimed at reducing abuse.
