Auckland City FC's squad for next year's Fifa Club World Cup could be bolstered by a number of professional players - including some on loan from A-League high-flyers Auckland FC

The Oceania champions are the only amateur squad among the 32 clubs entered for the 2025 tournament.

The draw pits them alongside European heavyweights Bayern Munich, Benfica and Boca Juniors.

The Herald reports that while Auckland City FC have faith in their squad - many of whom have experienced multiple Fifa tournaments - there is a recognition that they will need to assemble the best possible roster to be competitive.

Auckland City chairman Ivan Vuksich says they approached Auckland FC with the idea but there are a lot of details still to be worked through - although three or four players on loan could make sense.
