The Department of Conservation's clocked more than 1.2-million annual bed-night bookings -- as demand for its huts grows

The Department of Conservation's clocked more than 1.2-million annual bed-night bookings -- as demand for its huts grows

DOC's annual visitor activity report to July shows Great Walk bookings were up 10-percent year-on-year.

Bookings at its other sites shot up by 28-percent.

Heritage and Visitors Director, Cat Wilson says increasing amounts of international tourists have played a role.

She says more facilities -- like huts, and tracks -- have also re-opened after being damaged in extreme weather events.
