A man has been arrested in Northland - after allegedly ramming a police car with a stolen vehicle in Whangarei yesterday

Police claim he was driving a vehicle stolen earlier in an aggravated robbery in Dargaville.

Inspector Maria Nordstrom says the 38-year-old rammed the police car then fled towards Maungatapere.

He was arrested after running off when the car was spiked near Tangowahine Valley Road.

He's due in Whangarei District Court today on dangerous driving and assault charges.
