Tom Hanks and Tina Fey were among the stars to induct Martin Short into the 'Saturday Night Live' Five-Timers Club on Saturday (21.12.24)

The 'Only Murders in the Building' actor took the reins of the comedy sketch show for the fifth time this weekend, and he was joined by a string of famous faces including Paul Rudd, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Emma Stone, Scarlett Johansson, John Mulaney and show veteran Alec Baldwin - who had a different jacket to the others as his had a number 17 on to mark his hosting gigs - to celebrate the milestone

Jimmy Fallon, who is not a member of the club but served as the ceremonial "jacket boy" told Martin as he presented him with his commemorative garment: "I just want to say I am so happy to be here for this moment, so I would like to present to you the official Five Timer's Club jacket in exactly your size - a women's small."

As he struggled to get the jacket on, the 74-year-old star said: "From the bottom of my heart, I just want to say, I love most of you so much."

But one notable absentee was Steve Martin, Martin's 'Only Murders in the Building' co-star, who has hosted 'SNL' 16 times.

Martin later quipped during his opening monologue: "He would have been here tonight. But he had a conflict - with me not wanting him to be here."

The cold opener was set in a bar lounge and featured a roast of Martin after 'Philadelphia' star Tom noted he had created the Five-Timers Club in December 1990 as an "ingeniously lazy way to avoid writing a monologue."

He noted: "It has grown into one of the most exclusive clubs in our industry."

As Tina entered, the 'Mars Attacks!' actor told her "You are one of the rarest things in Hollywood, a writer who's attractive enough to be on camera."

She quipped back: "You're one of the least rare things in Hollywood, a loud man."

She also conducted a test before Martin's induction, asking him to "name three current cast members".

And when he said, "No idea", she replied: "Correct and that was the whole test."

Tom offered Martin a signature cocktail, the Marty-tini and told him: "You know, it's often paired with our Steve Martini, but tonight, we are serving it solo."

The actor joked: "And I bet it's even better on its own."
