Five youths between 15 and 17 are due in the Tauranga Youth Court today following an attempted burglary in Rotorua

Police were prompted by an alarm at about 2am on Amohau Street, and signalled for a fleeing vehicle to stop.

Inspector Phil Gillbanks says a pursuit was abandoned when the vehicle sped out of town via Fairy Springs Road.

It was subsequently spotted on CCTV in Tauranga, where Police spiked the vehicle.

Officers arrested the alleged offenders with the help of a dog unit.
