Jamie Foxx found making his stand-up special to be a "cleansing" experience

The 57-year-old star suffered a stroke while working on his new movie, 'Back in Action', in April 2023 - but Jamie relished the experience of making his recently-released Netflix Special, 'What Had Happened Was...'

The stand-up comedian - who stars alongside Cameron Diaz in 'Back in Action' - told 'Extra': "That [stand-up] special was cleansing for me ... It's a way for me to get it out, it's a way for me to let people know, it's a way for me to say thank you, and now it's a way for me to say go check out 'Back in Action'. Go see the bounce-back, go see how good it feels to be back."

In the Netflix special, Jamie revealed that he suffered a "brain bleed that led to a stroke".

The comedian explained: "Before I could get the aspirin [clicks his fingers] I went out. I don't remember 20 days."

Jamie - who disappeared from the spotlight for months following his health scare - also admitted that he came perilously close to losing his life at one point in time.

The actor recalled waking up in a hospital bed and having to be told that he'd suffered a stroke.

He shared in the comedy special: "They said at one point, the first 15 days, they thought they were going to lose me because my vitals were out of control.

"There was a 13- or 14-day period where they said, we've gotta keep him calm and we've given him every medication that they could. It's not working, we gotta keep him calm because his vitals are so high we're going to lose him."
