Aston Villa's place in the Champions League top eight is teetering after a 1-nil away loss to AC Monaco in their penultimate group match

Aston Villa's place in the Champions League top eight is teetering after a 1-nil away loss to AC Monaco in their penultimate group match

Unai Emery's side conceded an eighth minute goal from a corner kick which proved the difference.

Villa remain seventh, for now, although seven matches have just begun across Europe.

Teams who finish in the top eight automatically qualify for the round of 16 - while those placed ninth to 24th will contest a knock out match.

Leaders Liverpool can sew up top spot this morning - they're underway at Anfield against Lille.
