Authorities are gearing up for record numbers of travellers today, bound for Waitangi

NZTA says motorists need to plan ahead, as there are multiple road closures along State Highway 11 into the area.

Those heading to Waitangi, should use the free parking sites at Haruru and regular shuttle buses heading towards the event.

Northland Police District Commander, Superintendent Matt Srhoj , says planning for the event takes months.

He says contingencies are in place, as they're expecting huge numbers tomorrow.
