Calls for the Government to push forward with funded health checks for intellectually disabled people - now it's got the research to back it

A New Zealand Medical Journal study's found the annual check-ups would cost 13-million dollars a year.

But it'd save 16-million-dollars in health care costs, from a community that's three times more likely to be hospitalised for avoidable conditions.

IHC spokesperson Shara Turner says this has been an outstanding issue for a long time.

She says there was a 2003 government report, finding it needed to address the health neglect intellectually disabled people face in New Zealand.
