A Hector's dolphin has died after being caught by commercial fishermen in Southland

The Department of Conservation confirms it was caught by a commercial trawl fisher in Te Waewae Bay earlier this month.

The fisher has handed the dolphin over to Invercargill DOC staff -- who will transfer it to Massey University for a necropsy -- to determine its age and sex.
