An Auckland construction figure who allegedly smuggled more than 500 kilograms of methamphetamine inside a shipment of steel beams can now be identified

Professional quantity surveyor John Anthony Giles was one of seven people arrested in October following a joint investigation by police and Customs.

Court documents show the 42 steel beams from the United States were imported into New Zealand by a company of which he is the director and shareholder.

The 52 year old has pleaded not guilty.
