Jason Momoa feels honoured to have been recognised by National Geographic for his conservation work

The 45-year-old actor was recently named on the National Geographic 33, a list of 33 individuals who have helped to make the world a better place, and Jason is thrilled that his efforts to protect the oceans have been recognised

Speaking to 'Extra', Jason explained: "It's huge.

"I've dedicated my life to anything ... that can help with just changing the ocean. So, I mean, my own personal journey is just to eliminate plastic and just try to get it out of the oceans and deep-sea mining."

Jason acknowledged that his TV and film career has given him a platform to "make a difference".

Jason was recently named alongside the likes of Selena Gomez and Michelle Yeoh on the National Geographic 33, and in 2022, he was designated the UN Environment Programme's Advocate for Life Below Water.

Inger Andersen, the ex ecutive director of the UN Environment Programme, said at the time: "Jason has a strong track record of advocating for ocean issues, from reducing single-use plastic pollution to protecting coral reefs.

"In 2021, the four primary measures of climate change - greenhouse gas concentrations, sea level rise, ocean temperatures and ocean acidification - all hit record highs. This means the time for action is now."

Inger believes Jason - who advocates for coral reef preservation, marine protection and global initiatives against plastic pollution - can help to raise awareness of environmental issues.

She said: "With a huge audience of engaged fans, we believe that Jason can move ocean considerations into the hearts and minds of citizens and business leaders to promote this urgency and action."
