Patrick Schwarzenegger's parents were "very strict" with him when he was growing up

The 31-year-old actor is the son of Hollywood legend Arnold Schwarzenegger and his ex-wife Maria Shriver, and he explained that he was generally well-behaved as a child, but there were "a lot of rules" that he had to stick by in his youth

Speaking on 'The Drew Barrymore Show' when asked about what he "got away with as a kid", he said: "I didn't do anything ... I didn't want to do anything against Maria and Arnold. Oh man. We just had a lot of rules.

"They were very strict parents. I'm worried I'm gonna get grounded if I say something now."

The 'Whtie Lotus' star did admit that he has received "so much advice" from his mother and that he feels "blessed" to have such an affluent family around him because it allows him to make the most of the big platform he has and "give back" to others.

He said: "My mom has given me so much advice. "Maybe just finding ways to give back. I feel like God blessed me with a really amazing life and family. And [I] find ways to kind of utilize my platform and who we are to give back."

Just last month, Patrick revealed that he is often asked about his dad - who carved out a career as a champion bodybuilder before making it in the big acting business - and whether he is concerned about the idea of living in his father's "shadow"' but he admitted that is not the case.

Speaking on 'Real Pod', he said: "[I]m often asked] 'Are you so worried about living in your dad's shadow? Or, How does that weigh on you?' And, 'Do you ever think you'll be more successful than him?'

"To me, one of the things that I've learned probably the most - and probably from my mom more than my dad - is just: What is success to you? And really making sure you have a clear understanding of what you value in life.

"I really learned that a lot from my mom and just having really kind of defined areas of [what success means]."
