It's getting a lot more expensive to power, heat and feed a household

Latest Stats NZ figures reveal a huge surge in the cost of several basics over the past year.

Power prices are up 10.4 percent, and gas up 16.4.

Food went up 4.6 percent -- including mutton and lamb rising 25, beef and veal 19.2, cheese 17, and milk up 13.2

We'll learn on Monday how those rises have affected overall inflation.
