Christchurch Police have revealed a woman who died in custody on Monday - had earlier been tasered at a Rakaia property after threatening to harm others with a knife

Police arrived at the scene around 1am to find a woman intoxicated and hurting herself, and she didn't respond to appeals to put the weapon down.

She was arrested and taken into custody, where she was assessed by a doctor - but was later found unresponsive.

Her death has been referred to the Coroner and the Independent Police Conduct Authority.
