Most dairy farmers are now breaking even again, for now

Most dairy farmers are now breaking even again, for now

    Fonterra
    Fonterra
Fonterra's confirmed a final milk price for last season of 10-dollars-16 -- well above the 8-dollars-45 the average farmer needed to break even.

It's still forecasting 10-dollars for this season, compared to an 8-dollars-66 the average farmer will need.

Fonterra Chair Peter McBride says some farms have less debt and costs, and some have more.

He says there's a risk for farmers who lock themselves into a high-cost structure, and are left stranded if dairy prices drop.
