A driver allegedly speeding three-times over the limit while under the influence was caught in East Auckland last night

A police helicopter saw the car driving dangerously on Botany Road.

It's estimated the vehicle was travelling more than 150 kilometres an hour.

Patrol cars were alerted and the driver was stopped on Hope Farm Road and breath-tested.

Police say he was found to be more than twice over the legal alcohol limit.

A 34-year-old man had his car impounded.
