Police have shot a man who allegedly broke into a Wellington property while armed this afternoon

Police have shot a man who allegedly broke into a Wellington property while armed this afternoon

Officers were called to Wadestown's Anne St shortly after 12.30 following reports of someone with a large bladed weapon attempting to steal a vehicle.

Police say he began damaging the property when he was challenged, and hid in the house when police arrived.

The man allegedly became violent, and after pepper spray and tasers were used an officer fired once.

Following his arrest almost two hours later, he was taken to hospital for treatment for a police dog bite, and a superficial shoulder injury believed to be from the shot.
