Additional specialist care is making an impact on men with prostate cancer, in the lower South Island

Additional specialist care is making an impact on men with prostate cancer, in the lower South Island

The Health Minister says New Zealand's first Advanced Practitioner Radiation Therapist specialised in prostate cancer, is transforming care in the region.

The practitioner runs review clinics, six-week post-treatment follow-ups and assessments to prepare patients before they see a specialist.

Simeon Brown says in August alone, around 60 men received faster treatment, personalised support and improved outcomes.

He says there are plans to extend the role to a wider range of urological conditions.
