A man dobbed himself in - after allegedly starting a fire at Dunedin's Central Police Station

The Otago Daily Times reports the 32-year-old's accused of dousing the front door in petrol then setting it alight just before five this morning.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond says the man filmed it from across the road, then called police to let them know what he'd done.

Staff extinguished the fire, with no injuries reported.

The man will appear in Dunedin District Court today, facing charges of wilful damage and arson.
