Olivia Culpo sought inspiration from the late Princess Diana for her new Abercrombie + Fitch collection

The 33-year-old model-and-actress has teamed up with the brand for a series of vintage-inspired designs aimed towards football fans who want to look fashionable and one of her key reference point was an iconic photo of the late British royal in a Harvard sweatshirt over shorts.

Olivia told People magazine: "I wanted it to feel lived in and nostalgic, and everybody knows those iconic Princess Diana photos, of her leaving the gym in her mock neck turtleneck and biker shorts."

Olivia - who has five-month-old daughter Colette with husband Christian McCaffrey - has created a camisole, leather jacket with patches and an "oversized and comfortable" sweatshirt as part of the range, which is in her spouse's San Francisco 49ers colours of gold and scarlet and she was excited to work with Abercrombie, the NFL's official fashion partner.

She said: "I was really just inspired by pieces that felt timeless and comfortable and practical, that you'll want to keep reaching for and reuse and again, just stand the test of time...

"I feel like Abercrombie has done an incredible job of growing with us. As somebody who was a consumer growing up and as somebody who now also loves a brand, they've really been able to grow with the times and provide something that everyone needs."

Of her own memories shopping at the brand, she added: "It was like ... a feeling. It was a person that you wanted to become!"

The former Miss Universe admitted her game-day wardrobe has become "more practical" since she had her daughter.

She said: "I have to be a little more practical about what I'm going to wear for those long days, breastfeeding.

"I have to wear a lot of camisoles, which is why I was really excited about the camisole I'm creating in this line. It's easier in a lot of ways because you simplify your wardrobe when you're a mom."

Olivia's advice for those in similar situations is to select one "key" item to build an outfit around, such as a jacket, pair of jeans, or boots.

She added: "That just takes a lot of the guesswork out."
