The MetService weather warning map looks clearer today following a bout of wild weather yesterday afternoon

The MetService weather warning map looks clearer today following a bout of wild weather yesterday afternoon

The NZTA was warning of danger on roads in much of the lower south island because of hail and thunderstorms.

MetService says a video taken yesterday south from Rakaia shows a super cell, a powerful thunderstorm with a rotating updraft.

The current map shows warnings for the Coromandel Peninsula and the Gisborne Tairawhiti area which activate tomorrow.
