One of our greatest men's one-day batters is stunned to receive a New Year Honour

One of our greatest men's one-day batters is stunned to receive a New Year Honour

Former Black Caps opener Martin Guptill has been made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to cricket.

Still playing short form cricket with Auckland and franchise tournaments around the world, the power-hitter surpassed seven thousand ODI runs and three-and-a-half thousand in T20 internationals.

The 39-year-old's 237 not out against the West Indies at the 2015 World Cup is the second highest 50-over innings in history.

But Guptill says the email informing him of his honour was one delivery he didn't pick.
