Jesy Nelson wanted to quit Little Mix after two years

While the 34-year-old singer eventually quit the girl group in 2020, she admitted that she was ready to say goodbye to her bandmates Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall seven years before she actually left.

Speaking on the Great Company with Jamie Laing podcast , Jesy confessed: "That [leaving] presented itself far before I made that decision.

"There was a time where I was like 'oh, I want to leave' and I remember sitting down with my family... and it was actually because of my brother that in the end I stayed.

"The first time I wanted to leave I remember I went home and we were kinda weighing up the [pros and cons]... and at that point we weren't even at our biggest.

"We were, it had only been like two years, but we were still big. Everyone still knew who Little Mix were so it was like 'if you leave now, what are you going to do?'

"My brother was like 'you are so much stronger than you give yourself credit for and I think you can stick this out for another few years'.

"I'm going to be completely honest about what he said, he said 'just make as much money as you can, you've got a chance to really change your family's life.

"If somewhere in you can do this for another few years, do it, and then leave, because you'll never get this opportunity again.''

Jesy now believes her brother was right and she is happy she stayed for so long, especially if it means she might get access to more treatments for her nine-month-old twin daughters Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, who were recently diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, a rare muscle wasting disease

Speaking during a Q & A following a London screening of the first episode of her Prime Video docuseries Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix at The Cinema at Selfridges, she said: "I really believe that we're going to make real change. I really feel it and I'm so proud that, you know we're going to raise a lot of awareness in terms of everything with their diagnosis - even down to the twin-to-twin transfusion.

"It's always hard, because I think a lot of people would maybe choose to not share this. But for me, when you go through something like this in your life, it puts everything into perspective. It's so important to me for everyone to see this."
