The Eufy PoE Bullet Security Camera E40 is aimed at homeowners and small business owners who want the reliability of wired infrastructure, along with local storage of security camera recordings to eliminate the cost of a cloud subscription. It’s built for people who take their security seriously and are willing to pull cables through their walls to get it. The camera must be paired with Eufy’s PoE NVR, which you’ll likewise need to hardwire to your home network.
For those unfamiliar with the terms, PoE stands for Power-over-Ethernet (both power and data travel over a single ethernet cable, eliminating the need for an outdoor power outlet), and NVR stands for Network Video Recorder (it’s a similar concept to the DVR–digital video recorder–you might connected to your TV). I evaluated the camera with the Eufy Network Video Recorder S4 I reviewed in July 2025.
The Eufy PoE Bullet Security Camera’s video quality in daylight is excellent, with 4K resolution delivering sharp detail and accurate color.
Specifications
The E40 is a classic bullet-style security cameras built for the outdoors. It has a metal housing and a weatherization rating of IP67, meaning it’s dustproof and can withstand immersion in up to one meter (about 3.3 feet) of water for up to 30 minutes. Want to know more about IP codes? Our IP code guide will tell you everything you need to know.
Inside that housing is a 4K single-lens camera with a wide 122-degree field of view. It supports up to 5x digital zoom, letting you focus in on details while reviewing footage. The E40 offers three modes for nighttime coverage: starlight color night vision for low-light scenes, a spotlight-enhanced mode for complete darkness, and a traditional black-and-white infrared mode when you prefer to keep things discreet.
The Eufy PoE Cam E40 comes with an ethernet cable, a grommet, and mounting hardware.Michael Ansaldo/Foundry
The camera’s on-device AI can distinguish between people, pets, and vehicles, reducing false alarms from passing cars or wandering wildlife. You can further minimize unwanted notifications by setting activity zones and schedules, so it only alerts you when and where you want.
For active deterrence, the E40 is equipped with a built-in siren and flashing red and blue lights that mimic police strobes. Two-way audio with noise reduction can also be used to can warn off intruders or speak with visitors. The camera system can be integrated with Amazon Alexa or Google Home, but there’s currently no support for Apple Home.
The Eufy Network Video Recorder S4 includes 2TB of local storage (expandable to 16TB) and built-in AI that handles detection and tracking without relying on the cloud. Michael Ansaldo/Foundry
Setup and performance
Installing the PoE Cam E40 is straightforward, provided you’re comfortable pulling ethernet cable from the camera back to Eufy’s NVR. The included mounting hardware gives you flexibility in positioning the camera, whether you’re attaching it to a wall, under an eave, or on a pole.
The Eufy Network Video Recorder S4 comes with 2TB of storage via a mechanical hard drive, and it can be expanded up to 16TB by replacing the factory-installed drive in its single 3.5-inch bay. You’ll likely need more capacity if you elect for 24/7 recording.
Setting up the NVR is more involved than a wireless camera install. You’ll need to hardwire it to your router, plug in the included mouse for system control, and hook up a monitor to its HDMI port. It’s then it’s a matter of choosing your camera locations, mounting the brackets, attaching the cameras, and drilling holes in your walls to feed ethernet cables through the provided weatherproof grommets. Once everything’s connected to the NVR, the hard part is over; the system automatically detects the cameras and you can access the system via the monitor, the Eufy app, or Eufy’s web portal.
Video quality in daylight is excellent, with 4K resolution delivering sharp detail and accurate color. At night, the starlight sensor produces a clear, colorful image in low-light conditions. When the scene is completely dark, the spotlight mode kicks in to illuminate and capture maximum detail. Infrared mode provides ample light to capture clear black-and-white footage.
Eufy’s onboard AI does a solid job of recognizing people, vehicles, and pets, and custom activity zones help reduce false alarms triggered by irrelevant movement. Alerts arrive promptly, and the classification accuracy keeps notifications useful rather than overwhelming. If you’re running multiple cameras, as you most likely will be, you can choose to default to the NVR’s global AI settings, which will override individual camera settings. This makes it easier to apply consistent detection rules across your system without having to configure each camera separately.
When deterrence is needed, the flashing red and blue lights demand attention, and the two-way audio is loud and clear enough to startle someone who shouldn’t be there.
The Eufy Security app provides full control over the PoE Cam E40, letting you view live feeds, review recordings, adjust video and audio settings, and fine-tune features such as motion detection and lighting.Michael Ansaldo/Foundry
The Eufy Security app ties it all together. You’ll use it to view live feeds, scrub through recordings, and manage your video, audio, and notification settings. Streaming over a local network is smooth, and the app gives you direct control over how the camera behaves day to day.
Should you buy the Eufy PoE Cam E40?
At $130, the Eufy PoE Cam E40 delivers a lot for its price. You get sharp 4K video, reliable AI detection, and built-in deterrence features—all without the ongoing cost of a cloud subscription. Be sure to factor in the cost of the 8-channel (expandable to 16 channels) Eufy Network Video Recorder S4 ($400), because the camera can’t operate without it. If you’re starting from scratch, Eufy also offers the NVR bundled with four E40 cameras for $800, a $119 discount if you’re planning full-home coverage. Eufy offers bundles with combinations of cameras (e.g., you can buy the Eufy NVR with two bullet cameras and two pan/tilt cams for $1,000).
You will need to accept some trade-offs. The PoE requirements mean you might need to do a fair amount of drilling and routing if your home isn’t already set up for it. And if you’re in the Apple Home ecosystem, this camera won’t slot into your setup.
If you can work within those limits, the Eufy PoE Cam E40 and Eufy Network Video Recorder S4 are a smart buy. The system is built for long-term use, and it provides the kind of always-on security that’s hard to get from battery-powered, wireless alternatives. Read...Newslink ©2025 to PC World

This no longer works in the new Outlook app, and it appears that Microsoft has no plans to change this. However, there’s still a way to view the HTML code of an email with a little trick.
Here’s how it works: Open the email, then now click on the three-dot menu at the top-right corner to access the email’s context menu. (Make sure you aren’t accidentally accessing the three-dot menu in the toolbar instead!) In the menu, go to Save as > Save as EML and select a destination folder for the resulting file.
Next, launch File Explorer and navigate to the destination folder, then right-click on the EML file. Click on Open with > Choose another app and choose a text editor from the app list (e.g., Notepad). In the EML file, scroll down to the line that reads Content-Type: text/html, and after that is where you’ll find the HTML code for that email.

Right now, Best Buy is clearing out this Asus Vivobook S 14 with an OLED screen, Intel Core Ultra 5 processor, and 16GB of RAM for the low price of $569.99. That’s almost $400 off retail!
Frankly, the original asking price of almost $1,000 was too much for a laptop without a touchscreen and only 512GB of storage, as noted in our PCWorld review. That review was for a slightly different config with more RAM, storage, and a different CPU, but the battery life figure—an impressive 20 hours—should be about the same here. And with a 14-inch OLED screen at 1920×1200 resolution and a fairly light 2.87-pound build, it’s a great choice for students or anyone who needs some decent power on the go, especially at this incredible sale price.
Connectivity is a high point, with double USB-C, double USB-A, full-sized HDMI, and a microSD card slot. The Intel Lunar Lake processor won’t beat bigger laptops with discrete graphics cards, but for light gaming (up to about Minecraft), it should be more than enough. It’s also got a solid metallic keyboard and an accurate, roomy trackpad. If you aren’t the kind of user who misses a touchscreen, you’ll be right at home here.
Best Buy has this marked as a clearance sale and I’m not seeing this model in stock in many other places, so you might want to hop on it quickly if you’re interested. If it isn’t quite what you’re looking for, be sure to check out PCWorld’s roundup of the best laptops.

If you aren’t ready to replace your “dumb” appliances with smart upgrades yet, here’s a more affordable first step you can try: grab an Amazon Smart Plug for just $20 while it’s currently 20% off with this limited-time deal.
Amazon Smart Plugs are really simple. All you have to do is plug it into an outlet, then plug any device into the smart plug itself. Then, using an app on your phone, you can remotely control the smart plug and toggle it on and off from anywhere. Using Alexa routines, you can even schedule and automate via rules. Boom! Any dumb device can be “smart” now.
For example, you can smart plug your coffee machine and have it automatically start in the morning, or you can smart plug your main living room lamp so you can turn it off without getting out of bed. Another idea is to connect your Christmas lights to a smart plug and have them turn on and off at certain times of day without any intervention.
These Amazon Smart Plugs are nice because they’re compact and don’t block the other outlet when plugged in, and you can even plug two of them in on the same outlet plate if you want to. Get one for just $20, or grab several and place them around your home!

| | | PC World - 8 hours ago (PC World)Does your CPU come with a cooler in the box? Do you need to buy a separate one for your new PC build? It’s a complicated and sometimes frustrating question, especially if you’re buying parts online and can’t fondle the box with your meat fingers. And it’s just become more frustrating for some AMD chips, which are now getting cheaper coolers in the box… or no cooler at all.
CPU watchdog Momomo on social media spotted the changes made to several Ryzen CPU specifications online. On some of these pages, the rollover text (which isn’t easy to see on some browsers) says that the SR4 cooler is reaching end-of-life status. That’s the “Wraith Prism” cooler that comes from AMD in the box, which is well-liked for decent cooling capacity and a bit of RGB bling, more than most pack-in CPU coolers.
According to the text, the Wraith Prism/SR4 and Wraith Spire/SR2a won’t be made after August 1st, 2025 and thus won’t be included in the box. VideoCardz.com reports that some Ryzen 5000, 7000, and 8000G will get the Wraith Stealth/SR1 cooler, a super-basic model with a smallish 92mm fan and no LEDs. That’s the one that’s come with most mid-range Ryzen processors going back to the 5000 series.
It appears that this basic design is the only one AMD will ship with any CPUs going forward, with more premium models simply coming without a cooler (on the assumption that system builders will just supply their own more deluxe cooling setup). The Ryzen 7 7700 and Ryzen 9 9700 are explicitly going without coolers from here on out. It makes sense given that these chips are almost exclusively for high-end builds… and AMD has to make up its losses from US tariffs somewhere. Read...Newslink ©2025 to PC World
| | | PC World - 9 hours ago (PC World)There are a lot of popular games I haven’t personally connected with, including The Sims, Minecraft, pretty much anything that looks like anime. Roblox is among them—oh yeah, Among Us too—and I’ve seen some of the more problematic issues with it. But last week, Roblox recorded 45 million people playing its various modes at once. Holy freakin’ crap.
According to Roblox CEO David Baszucki, the game-slash-service surpassed 45 million players on August 23rd. As PC Gamer notes, that’s more simultaneously active in-game players than Steam—the de facto standard platform for PC gaming—by about 5 million. And I don’t just mean for a single Steam game. I’m talking about Steam’s record for active players across every game, everywhere on the planet at any given time. For further comparison, Fortnite‘s record is 14.3 million concurrent players while Minecraft averages almost 32 million daily players with a concurrent peak of 4.2 million.
Granted, this isn’t a perfect apples-to-apples comparison. Roblox isn’t so much a singular game as it is an entire platform, where users can develop their own games with relatively friendly tools and publish them for other Roblox users to try out. Roblox is also cross-platform, available on PC, Android, iOS, PlayStation, and Xbox, making a direct comparison to Steam even fuzzier. The most popular game mode in Roblox at the moment appears to be “Steal a Brainrot,” which hit 20 million concurrent players the same day in a recent event.
Did I mention that Roblox is overwhelmingly played by children? It’s estimated that about half of US kids between the ages of 6 to 16 play Roblox, and only 1 in 10 users is over the age of 25.
Roblox isn’t without issues. At any given moment, a large portion of players are “bots” and “idlers” who are trying to game the monetization system, which isn’t great itself. Roblox also incentivizes “creators” (again, mostly children) by rewarding them with real money for publishing popular game modes. But some of the game modes in Roblox have actual teams of developers with budgets that can reach towards the million USD mark, and Roblox Corporation paid out over $300 million cumulatively in the second quarter of 2025 alone. The Roblox platform is almost 20 years old, getting a huge boost during the COVID pandemic, and now earns over $2 billion in total revenue every year for the company.
While many parents appreciate Roblox as a way to get their kids interested in game development and other programming, the company has been accused of exploiting child labor for profit. Several lawsuits have made that allegation formal. Roblox’s monetization is problematic at best, requiring you to earn 30,000 “Robux” worth of in-game currency before you can transfer it out of the platform (a figure most players never reach). Even when it’s transferred out, that currency is working for Roblox, not its game mode developers—you only earn a third of the value back into a bank account compared to Robux bought with “real” currency. It’s the sort of heavy-handed split that makes the usual 30 percent platform cut for Steam, iOS, or game consoles look positively generous.
Roblox’s overwhelmingly underage player base is also a target for online predators, and its low barrier to entry and allegedly lax moderation tools aren’t helping. The state of Louisiana is suing Roblox Corporation for failure to protect its underage users, after a controversy wherein a YouTube “vigilante” who tracked child predators on Roblox and reported them to police was banned from the platform. A speedy charger block is so handy in those situations, and now’s a smart time to grab one because this fast Baseus wall plug is down to $29.98 on Amazon (was $49.99) with a limited-time 40% discount.
This Baseus charger block hits 100W of charging, which means it’s fast enough to fully charge a phone in about 45 minutes or a laptop like the MacBook Pro M4 in under 2 hours. Yup, this power adapter works just as well with phones as it does laptops—or any other device that charges via USB cable (as long as you have USB cables rated for 100W).
What’s great about this charger block is that it has three ports: two USB-C and one USB-A. All three ports can be used at once, allowing you to fast-charge up to three devices simultaneously. Note, however, that only the USB-C ports are capable of hitting 100W, and only when used solo. The USB-A maxes out at 22.5W when solo. Otherwise, when multiple ports are used, the charging power is split between them.
One other thing I like about this power adapter is that it has foldable prongs, so it’s perfect for travel. Stash it away in any bag and don’t worry about it getting damaged or causing damage to anything else.
The Baseus 100W 3-port USB-C power adapter is only $29.98 with this awesome 40% discount, so grab it fast while you still can!

| | | PC World - 9 hours ago (PC World)In case of emergency, you will now be able to designate certain trusted people who can gain access to your Proton account. According to yesterday’s announcement post, Proton’s new Emergency Access feature supports up to five trusted contacts… with some caveats.
Proton
For one, you can only designate people who have Proton accounts of their own, as they’ll need to use their Proton account to access yours. With access granted, a trusted contact can then log into your Proton account whenever you’re unavailable or incapacitated, whether due to travel, illness, or (in the worst case) death.
Emergency Access will send you a notification whenever a trusted contact tries to access your account, and if you don’t explicitly respond with a denial, access will be granted. You can choose whether contacts can gain access immediately or whether they need to wait a certain number of days, weeks, or months before access is granted.
Proton
The other big catch is that Emergency Access is only available to paying Proton customers. Any paid plan qualifies for this feature, so if you want it, go ahead and upgrade your Proton Pass, Mail, VPN, or Drive plans. Alternatively, check out Proton Unlimited for full premium features across all Proton apps and services for just $9.99/month. Read...Newslink ©2025 to PC World
